Pets have a way of making life better. They love us unconditionally, they are always pleased to see us, and they give and receive affection without ever asking for anything in return. For many people thinking about moving into a retirement village, one of the biggest questions is whether their beloved pet can come too.
At Cumberland View, the answer is yes. As a pet friendly retirement village, we welcome pets as a much-loved part of everyday village life. All that’s needed is a quick chat with our village manager before your furry friend moves in, so we can make sure every pet in the village is a happy and comfortable fit. Once that’s sorted, they’re home. Around the village you will find neighbours walking their dogs along the paths, tending their gardens with a cat dozing nearby, and stopping for a chat while the dogs say hello to each other.
The company of an animal does wonders for our wellbeing. A pet gives us a reason to get outside, a friendly face at the door, and comfort on quieter days. Family pets are always welcome to visit too, and it is lovely to see grandchildren and four-legged friends arriving together for an afternoon visit.
Our neighbour Margaret has had pets by her side for most of her life. Her family adopted a fox terrier named Felix when she was four years old, and when her brother moved out of home, Felix went with him to a large property in Omeo where he had plenty of room to run. Throughout her married life, Margaret kept dogs for companionship, and with her husband away for work during the week, they helped her feel safe.
These days, Margaret’s daughter Deb visits with her Cavoodle, Honey Bunch.
‘It is very nice company for me and I get to give her cuddles and pats,’ Margaret says. ‘She’s a very friendly dog and it makes me happy when she brings her in because it triggers memories from when I had my dogs.’
Asked what having animals around the village means to her, Margaret puts it simply: ‘It just brings feelings of joy, love and happy memories.’
Nothing beats the love of an animal. They are our best friends, and if you’re considering making Cumberland View home, yours is welcome too. Just have a word with our village manager and we’ll help make the move smooth for both of you.
